Classic Aleppo Pepper also known as Pul Biber is a variety Capsicum Annuum. This Middle Eastern chilli pepper is typically used in Turkish and Syrian cuisines where it originates from. Used to season many dishes as some of us would use salt and pepper. A very versatile culinary accompaniment. The name, as you may have guessed, comes from the Syrian city of Aleppo. A very versatile culinary accompaniment, it’s used to season many dishes as some of us would use salt and pepper.

The flavour is balanced between heat and fruit, earthy, with slightly sweet undertones. This rich and complex flavour comes from its specific growing conditions and harvesting process. Once fully ripe, the chilli is picked and traditionally sun-dried, allowing them to retain their vibrant red colour and distinct flavour. Lastly, the dried chilli is crushed into flakes or ground into powder.

Due to the ongoing conflict in the region, the production and availability of authentic Aleppo Pepper has been significantly affected in recent years. While many substitutes on the market claim to be authentic, they often lack the distinctive flavour and quality of the original. It’s important to buy from a trusted, expert seller.

A wonderful product, it adds an exquisite spicy taste as a condiment when sprinkled onto your meal or to add to a plain recipe to spice it up without incorporating too much heat.
