Nigella Seeds, Whole
Nigella seeds, also known as kalonji, charnushka or black onion seeds, have an earthy, nutty flavour with bitter notes. The seeds are used within the Bengali spice mix Panch Phoran, which is used to flavour beans, pulses and vegetable dishes.
Nigella seeds are a significant component within Jewish cuisine for rye breads, kubaneh and various other flatbreads. Try adding a sprinkle to salads and soups or scatter over potatoes before roasting. Fry in a little oil first to release the flavour!
