Punjabi Masala is a wonderfully rounded Indian spice blend. It combines floral notes of rose petals, peppery punches of mace and clove and aromatic flavours of cardamom, fennel and coriander. The bouquet of aromatic flavours adds an authentic feel to Indian cooking.

Like some of our other Indian spice mixes, this does not contain chilli and is very mild curry powder. Punjabi Masala focuses more on providing aromatics, which is great for family-friendly curries such as Tikka Masala and Punjab’s most famous dish: Butter Chicken.

Other famed Punjabi dishes include chole bhature (spiced chickpeas with fried bread) and aloo paratha (potato-stuffed flatbread). There’s a vibrant street food scene in this region too – stalls and vendors often sell snacks like pakoras (deep-fried fritters), samosas and chaat (a savoury snack)

The Punjab region of India is famed for its rich, buttery flavours that compliment its large array of vegetarian dishes. Try using this blend when making dals such as Chana Masala, Tarka dal and Dal Makhani.

Punjabi cuisine is closely tied to the cultural identity of the Punjabi people. Food is not just sustenance here; it’s a way of celebrating life, family and community. The preparation and sharing of food hold deep cultural significance and it’s no surprise to find lavish spreads during festivals and special occasions, such as weddings.
