It’s a particularly popular ingredient in Italian cuisine and is used in dishes such as pesto and caprese salad. You’ll also find its widespread use across SouthEast Asia.

Basil is an excellent herb for culinary purposes and can be utilised in various ways: in tomato sauces, on pizza, in salads, and to enhance the flavour of fish and chicken… It ranks among my favourite herbs and plants to cultivate and use in cooking overall.

Did you know that the term basil is derived from the Greek word for king, “basileus”? This etymology certainly clarifies my willingness to go to great lengths for a handful of basil. In addition to being a flavourful culinary herb, basil possesses medicinal properties and is utilised in dental care products, cosmetics, and pharmaceuticals.
