Chai is an Indian spice mix used to make traditional milky tea. The blend is made with ginger, black pepper, cardamom and cloves. Within the Hindu culture, Chai translates to ‘spiced tea with sugar and milk’.
The blend is also extremely popular in Western cultures due to its availability in chain coffee shops and artisan baristas. Chai spices are used in a multitude of drinks on the menu such as chai latte, chai tea and chai hot chocolate.
Chai has also crossed into the baking and confectionary world. Due to the popular TV show The Great British Bake Off, chai spices have become a popular addition to chocolate cakes, biscuits and vanilla pastries.
Furthermore, chai spices can be used in chocolate bars, truffles and fudge. Alternatively add to frosting for all cakes, cupcakes and muffins.
