Ras el Hanout Spice Mix

Ras el Hanout spice mix is comprised of no less than fifteen herbs and spices that are roasted and mixed by hand. The spice mix contains warm, sweet flavours of cinnamon, cloves, mace and nutmeg. The addition of cardamom, coriander, allspice adds zest and zing to the blend! Whole rose petals and lavender are added at the end to impart pleasant, floral notes.

Passed down from generations, the highly esteemed Morocca Ras el Hanout spice blend translates from Arabic to ‘Top of the Shop’. It is believed that spice traders at Moroccan souks are in competition to sell the finest version. In some cultures, it is believed to have symbolic meanings, representing hospitality, warmth, and generosity. It’s often used in celebratory meals and special occasions.

This Moroccan spice mix is known as the essential tagine seasoning. The aromatic, complex flavours work well when stirred through boiled rice and couscous or rubbed into lamb especially. This versatile spice blend can also be used when cooking grilled meats, and vegetable dishes. Simple to use as a rub for meats or as a seasoning for roasted vegetables.

Delia Smith featured our premium quality, hand made Ras-el-Hanout in her ‘How to Cheat at Cooking’ cookbook on page 123 for her Moroccan Chicken with Preserved Lemons and Chickpeas. Check out Nigella’s Moroccan roast lamb video (below) as featured in her “Forever Summer” book.

This is by far the best ras-el-hanout I've found. I used to be able to get it in Sainsbury's but not any more. Bought direct from Seasoned Pioneers on Monday and received it on Wednesday posted through the letterbox. Excellent work!

This is the absolute best Ras El Hanout spice on the market, it's authentic, beautifully flavoured and I love the dried rose petals. As always despatched very quickly and efficiently. Couldn't be without this spice.

I prefer this mix to any other ras el hanout I have tried. got originlaly at Wholefoods but sadly they no longer sell it so ordered it directly. It's a very particular mix, lighly hot and I like the rose petals.

An excellent spice mix which I've been using for years. A teaspoon of Ras El Hanout and a pinch of salt into chicken stock makes the perfect rice for many dishes!

Ras-el-hanout is a complex spice blend that is not common outside the Middle East. The name means "front of the store", because ras-el-hanout was the spice blend that above all showed a spice merchant's skill at selecting and blending ingredients. It may have over a hundred ingredients.

Seasoned Pioneers' ras-el-hanout is the best I have found anywhere. It is aromatic and rich, yet subtle and well balanced. By comparison, other commercial ras-el-hanout blends that I have tried have been flat and unsatisfying. I keep finding new places to use it. Try mixing some into your next batch of hamburgers, or drop in just a pinch the next time you make hummus.

Love love love this blend. I get a perfect veggie tagine every time I use it. It also makes lovely spicy onions for biryanis. No other brand is quite as good. I also love buying from a small company.

This was the first product I ever bought from Seasoned Pioneers about 10 years ago.
It also bought me back to the company when local stockists stopped stocking it! Simply the best. My go to mix for soups and casseroles.

I found this years ago after Nigella insisted that this was the key ingredient for her Moroccan spiced lamb. It is so fragrant and continues to amaze guests. I have tried another make (once only) but won't be doing that again!

This is definitely the best! I usually purchase from Lakeland but after a recent visit was told it had been discontinued. So glad to have found you on-line. I have tried many other makes but they never come up to scratch.

this is the best you can buy. It is beautiful to look at with tiny rose petals, amazing flavour and keeps so well in your natty packaging. Amazing on chicken for a quick grilled supper.

This is my favourite spice mix, especially with lamb. Warm and flavoursome but not too hot. I have tried other brands but this is by far the best, even better than a sample I bought in Marrakesh, as the packaging keeps all the spices fresh tasting, especially the rose buds.

Originally found this delightful mixture in a town many miles from us. No local stockist so now purchased online. Usually mix with a little soy and orange juice to cook chicken thighs. Use in couscous also. Tried supermarket blends but this one is far superior.

Online service is excellent, the personalised and hand-signed note with the package is a charming gesture. Will buy more of this and other blends in gift packs for Christmas presents.

I think my review is superfluous ! This is the spice blend that wins hands down. I live in Southern France and we have many Moroccan, Tunisian
and Algerian ex-pats at home here. North African cuisine ingredients are available in supermarkets and neighbourhood shops, but the Ras-al-hanout on sale is not a patch on Seasoned Pioneers' blend. I love it and use in Gazpacho (!) and many other dishes.

We held a biggish (12 of us) party to celebrate a 70th birthday and the birthday girl chose a north African theme for the meal. I did my usual Morrocan chicken with couscous. The Ras goes into the chicken marinade with oil and honey - it is just delicious. I took the empty packet with me to show the 'girls' (we are 'The Dames Wot Dine') because I knew they would ask about the flavours. They did! I suspect that several of them will be ordering Ras el hanout for themselves.

This blend is superb for couscous dishes and is better than any other brand I have found, including 2 examples I bought in a market in Marrakech. It is deliciously spicy without being too hot to taste all the flavours, including the delicate rose bud petals.

I discovered this eye opening spice blend through HelloFresh and then the inspiring, idea filled Seasoned Pioneers website.

This spice is rich and so flavoursome and works very well with chicken, lamb and vegetarian .

My order was processed very promptly, arriving the next day.

This has encouraged me to explore more new flavours and cooking ideas.

This is such a lovely aromatic, complex mix, with a subtle underlying heat. Perfect to add interest to couscous, or as an easy way to make a delicious Moroccan style tagine, I have used with chicken, lamb and vegetarian with great success .

Thank you - my order which I placed in the small hours of yesterday morning, was despatched yesterday lunchtime, and in my hands before nine o'clock this morning. Is this a record? A couple of the items are for someone I'm seeing on Monday, so I'm delighted that they're already here. (Most of them are for me!)
I love that you acknowledged my order by emailing it back to me, and that you send status updates that I can read immediately without following a link and pasting in a number - it's just there to read instantly.
I hadn't heard of ras el hanout till it was used on this year's Masterchef, and thought of buying some, but there was so much choice, I didn't know where to start, so I didn't. I used it for the first time when it came in a HelloFresh box a few weeks ago. It may be the most delicious thing I have ever tasted, and HelloFresh were kind enough to share you with me.
Every time I walked past the frying pan, I got such a gorgeous whiff that I didn't want to wash it. That could be your new slogan: "So good, you won't want to wash up."
Thank you both. I am a happy customer.
